Malta boasts a rich history spanning thousands of years. The earliest known inhabitants were the Neolithic people, who left behind impressive megalithic temples dating back to 3600 BC. Phoenicians, Carthaginians, and Romans later ruled Malta, each leaving a significant cultural imprint.

In the medieval period, it became a strategic stronghold for the Byzantine Empire and later the Arabs. The Knights of St. John fortified Malta in the 16th century, transforming it into a powerful maritime hub.

British rule began in 1814, lasting until Malta gained independence in 1964.

Malta joined the European Union in May 2004 and the eurozone on 1st January 2008.

Today, its historical legacy remains evident in its vibrant culture and architecture.
