The Malta Digital Innovation Authority (MDIA) was established in 2018 under the Malta Digital Innovation Authority Act, alongside the Innovative Technology Arrangements and Services Act. These acts define the powers granted to the Authority.

MDIA serves a dual role as both a regulator and promoter of innovative technologies within the Maltese ecosystem. As a regulator, it focuses on overseeing innovative technology, while as a promoter, it introduces various incentives to encourage technological advancements. Our mission is to lead as the national focal point, directing and facilitating the secure and optimal uptake of digital innovation. Our vision is to be the forward-looking Authority that fosters trust in innovative technologies.
